Forecast for Ruidera |
On the borders of the Albacete and Ciudad Real provinces, and in the middle of the vast Campo de Montiel, we come across, almost without warning, an oasis of water and flora; the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve, where at its highest point, the Cabeza de San Pedro, there are the Rochafrida Castle and the Montesinos Cave.
In an area of 4000 hectares there are sixteen lagoons which gradually form waterfalls and streams which start at the first springs which gush forth from the Blanca lagoon until they reach the lower lagoons and the Peñarroya Marsh. In spring the exuberant colour of an abundant and varied flora, receives countless aquatic birds. The water reaches its maximum current during this period and flows from one lagoon to another, in some cases forming small waterfalls.

From Levante take the Mediterranean dual carriageway until you arrive at the city of Albacete which you by-pass always following the Manzanares direction via the N-430. Barrax and Munera are the towns you pass before arriving at Ossa de Montiel. Within this town turn off at one of its roads towards the CV-3120 road which leads to the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve. After eight kilometres and without leaving this road at any time, pass the San Pedro chapel and the Municipal Campsite, until you can see the San Pedro lagoon which is where the Hotel Albamanjon is located.
From Murcia take the A-30 until you reach the La Mancha town of Hellin and here take the CM-313 road, passing towns such as Pozohondo, San Pedro, Lezuza and Munera towards Manzaneres where you join the N-430 until you arrive at Ossa de Montiel.
