| LAGUNAS DE RUIDERA NATURE RESERVE |
| DISCOVER IT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR |
On the borders of the Albacete and Ciudad Real provinces, and in the middle of the vast Campo de Montiel, we come across, almost without warning, an oasis of water and flora; the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve, where at its highest point, the Cabeza de San Pedro, there are the Rochafrida Castle and the Montesinos Cave. In an area of 4000 hectares there are sixteen lagoons which gradually form waterfalls and streams which start at the first springs which gush forth from the Blanca lagoon until they reach the lower lagoons and the Peñarroya Marsh. In spring the exuberant colour of an abundant and varied flora, receives countless aquatic birds. The water reaches its maximum current during this period and flows from one lagoon to another, in some cases forming small waterfalls. |
The summer is the ideal season to enjoy the numerous aquatic activities or for the lovers of nature to go further along the paths which cross the reserve; the autumn on the other hand, reveals to us its hidden spots or the ground carpeted with leaves of all shades of ochre, which give the landscape a glowing contrast to the eternal green of the pine trees and junipers. Serenity and tranquillity are the calling card of the winter which invites you to contemplate an untouched landscape. As the afternoon draws to a close the sunset tears astonishing red glitter off the rocky walls which is indelibly reflected in the stillness of its waters. |
